Examples of Recent Client Projects

For “the largest IT system in the largest State Department” in a major Western state

This project focused upon identifying technology and communication gaps in a large, legacy government human services IT system.  This system consists of 34 “modules” that were developed at different times, for different purposes, by multiple vendors.  The end goal for the department is an integrated system that facilitates information sharing across these “modules” within the department’s divisions that will comply with all federal laws and regulations.

This project required extensive data collection regarding both legacy systems and applications as well as information sharing and communication practices within 150 facilities across the State.  These facilities have over 170 disparate systems of data reporting and collection.

In order to improve human services and public health functions, DigitalCare analyzed the Department’s enterprise-wide abilities to communicate client information across the organization.  In addition, we documented the appropriate flow and dissemination of data across the organization.

During this project, DigitalCare conducted extensive:

-         technical analysis and testing

-         staff, stakeholder and client interviews and focus groups

-         Best Practices research and analysis

-         Extensive recommendations development, including vendor requirements

For a Large County Government

DigitalCare provided a security assessment for a large county government.  This assessment included an analysis of all departments and agencies within the county to determine the level of technical and physical security.  This project included security perimeter testing, internal system testing, security gap analysis, and a data and applications criticality analysis.

For a Statewide Coalition of Health Care Providers

DigitalCare delivered training to health care providers, payors and vendors across the state of New Mexico.  We have provided 42 training classes that have included over 2300 attendees.

The training programs consist of conference style sessions, complemented by such state-of-the-art learning tools as video clips, interactive group activities and discussions. In addition, a variety of HIPAA materials have been provided to program participants, including self-paced workbooks, HIPAA assessment guides, implementation checklists and sample documents and forms.

For a Multi-state, Multi-site Organization -
Medical Information Sharing Project (On-going)

DigitalCare has completed the first phase of this study under an on-going client relationship. The goal of this project is to be able to effectively communicate and share medical information across all of the health care facilities in three cities located in three states. Facilities in this network include: 5 hospitals, many medical practices and clinics – including primary care, specialties, mental health, dentistry, and various governmental agencies.

Tasks accomplished by DigitalCare under this project, thus far, have included:

  • Interviewing providers, staff, administrators and patients to determine the current technology and information management needs.
  • Research and analysis of analogous health care technology implementations to determine how other health care organizations solved similar issues and problems.
  • Assessing the current information and communication infrastructure within health care provider facilities and government agencies, and recommending solutions to improve the current capabilities.
  • Recommending technology solutions based upon the strategic plan, stated goals, patient care improvement opportunities, cost saving opportunities and efficiency saving opportunities.
  • Assessment of how HIPAA will affect the organizations and their joint information sharing project.
  • Identifying hardware, network components and software applications and their associated vendors that can be used to enhance the management of medical information sharing.
  • Evaluation of emerging technologies and their applications in clinical environments.
  • Design of a technical infrastructure.
  • Identification of project budgets, cost estimates and staffing level needs.

For a Multi-site Health Care Provider Organization -
Clinical Information Systems Strategic Plan (On-going)

DigitalCare developed a comprehensive technology Strategic Plan, focused upon Clinical Information Management Systems:

  • Conducted extensive internal interviews with staff members at all facilities, to determine technology needs and potential constraints
  • Identified clinical environments that are analogous to those of our client
  • Researched technology solutions being used in these analogous situations
  • Analyzed the specific technologies identified, including their capabilities, specific applications and breadth of use
  • Evaluated the implementation of these technologies, and identified success factors and the risks to be managed
  • Calculated project budgets, including economic benefits and cost analyses
  • Analyzed the economics of each technology alternative, including cash flows, cost/benefit analysis, return-on-investment (ROI) and payback periods
  • Developed specific technology recommendations for our client, based upon extensive research
  • Developed an Implementation Plan based upon this information
  • Upcoming follow-on projects with this client will include:
